# Record Scores During a Match

> Enter live scores or post-match results in Match Point. Support for set-based and point-based scoring makes it easy to track any racquet sport.

Recording an accurate score is what turns a scheduled match into a completed result. Match Point gives you two ways to capture scores: live scoring while the match is in progress, or entering a final score after play ends. This page covers both methods, the scoring systems available, and who is allowed to edit the score.

## Live scoring vs. post-match entry

Choose the method that fits your workflow:

* **Live scoring**: update the score in real time as points or sets are won. Spectators and players following remotely see the score change instantly. Best for streamed or officiated matches.
* **Post-match entry**: enter the final score after the players leave the court. Faster for casual club play where no one is watching the screen.

Both methods produce the same completed match record and feed into rankings the same way.

## Scoring systems

Match Point supports the two most common racquet-sport scoring styles:

* **Set-based scoring** (tennis, padel): enter games per set, then mark the set winner. Typical formats include best-of-three or best-of-five sets. Match Point automatically tracks set scores and declares the match winner when enough sets are won.
* **Point-based scoring** (table tennis, badminton, squash): enter total points per game or per match. You can configure the points target and the number of games required to win.

You select the scoring system when you create the match, but you can switch it from the match detail page before scoring begins.

## Enter a live score

  </Step>

  <Step title="Record points or sets">
    Use the plus and minus buttons next to each side to update the score. For set-based scoring, add a new set when the current one ends. For point-based scoring, increment the points until a game or match threshold is reached.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Finish the match">
    When the match ends, click **Finish Match**. Confirm the final score and click **Save**. The match state changes to **Completed** and the result is locked.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Post-match score entry

If you prefer to enter the score after the match ends, open the match detail page while it is still in the **Scheduled** state. Click **Enter Final Score**, input the completed points or sets, and click **Save**. The match skips the In Progress state and moves directly to **Completed**.

<Note>
  Only club administrators and designated match officials can edit or correct a score after it is saved. Players can view the score but cannot change it. If you need to correct a score, contact an admin or use the **Edit Score** option on the match detail page if you have the required role.
