# Open and Manage Tournament Registration

> Enable public registration for your Match Point tournament, review and approve entries, manage waitlists, and control deadlines and confirmation emails.

Tournament registration in Match Point lets you collect player or team entries through a public link. You can approve or reject applicants, cap attendance, maintain a waitlist, and send confirmation emails automatically. This page covers how to open registration and manage entries throughout the signup period.

## Open registration

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the tournament">
    Navigate to **Tournaments**, select your event, and go to the **Registration** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable public registration">
    Toggle **Public registration** to on. Match Point generates a shareable registration link and a QR code you can post on websites, social media, or printed flyers.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set requirements">
    Choose whether registration is:

    * **Open**: anyone with the link can register
    * **Approval required**: applicants are held until you accept or reject them
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure the deadline">
    Confirm or edit the **Registration deadline**. The link automatically closes at this time and no new entries are accepted.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Review and approve entries

If you enabled approval, each new application appears in the **Pending** list on the Registration tab. Click an entry to view the participant profile, then click **Approve** or **Reject**. Approved participants move into the **Confirmed** list and receive a confirmation email. Rejected applicants receive a polite decline notice.

## Manage the waitlist

When registrations reach the **Maximum participants** limit you set during tournament creation, new applicants are placed on the **Waitlist**. You can reorder waitlisted entries manually. If a confirmed participant withdraws, Match Point prompts you to promote the next waitlisted applicant, who then receives a confirmation email.

## Registration deadline behavior

At the deadline, the public link becomes inactive. Pending applications are automatically rejected. You can still manually move waitlisted players into the confirmed list after the deadline if you have open slots, but new public signups are blocked.

## Send confirmation emails

Match Point sends confirmation emails automatically when a player is approved or promoted from the waitlist. You can customize the subject and body from **Tournament Settings > Notifications**. Include details such as the start time, venue address, and what to bring.

<Accordion title="Can players register as teams?">
  Yes. When you create the tournament, set the **Entry type** to **Team** rather than **Individual**. Players can then register as a pre-formed team by entering a team name and inviting teammates via email, or they can register solo and be grouped later.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Can I cap registration?">
  Yes. The **Maximum participants** field on the tournament creation page sets a hard cap. Once reached, new entries go to the waitlist. You can raise the cap at any time before the deadline to admit more players directly.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="How do I close registration early?">
  Go to the **Registration** tab and toggle **Public registration** to off. The link deactivates immediately. Existing confirmed and pending entries remain in place, but no new submissions are accepted. You can reopen registration later if the deadline has not passed.
